The ski resort of Bareges-La Mongie is the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees. It is situated in the Pays Toy area of the Hautes-Pyrenees department in the Pyrenees region 30kms South of Lourdes. With a 40 minute airport transfer time you can ski the afternoon you arrive, Ryanair fly daily from Stansted. It is also known as the Domaine Du Tourmalet ski resort. The lift-served area extends from 1400 metres to 2877 metres. There are over 100 km of lift served runs, and acres of unexploited space between the pistes for easy-access off-piste. The classic Aygues Cluses off-piste route, from one of the highest lifts Quatre Thermes, crosses spectacular scenery in the Neouvielle Nature Reserve and brings you back from where you started out that morning the Tournaboup. There are several classic descents from the Pic du Midi observatory cable car, which is now open to off-piste skiers without a guide although we do recommend that you take one. The resort is also a favourite for free-style skiers and boarders, the resort's snow park has been extended this year 2008/09 and more snow cannons have been added.

Bareges is a boarders paradise with the feel of the surf community of the Atlantic coast, we have Mathieu Crepel the current world champion freestyle snowboarder lives locally and can be seen regularly in the snow park, he also runs an invitational Dragon Freeride from 80 year old 60 metre ski jump just behind our favourite mountain restaurant chez Louisette in the forest of Lienz, this is one event not to be missed we have dates within our news section.

Ski touring 2009 in the Pyrenees National Park is becoming is also becoming more popular as refuges are now starting to open early in the spring. With some marked routes following the summer walking paths including the Pyrenean Haute Route (the HRP), the mountains are easily accessible for touring with our local guide, these mountains are within easy reach of a ski touring beginner, and also give the intermediate a tough workout. Bareges is the second oldest ski resort in France, the village was originally a Napoleonic military training centre based around the barracks and the thermal baths in Bareges. Now during the winter, skiers and boarders have discovered this very popular unspoilt ski area of France. Bareges and the Vallee du Bastan has a number of Winter Olympic champions they lived locally in and around Bareges and the Pyrenees. In the late 1970's Bareges was linked to the resort of La Mongie make the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees.
